MEN IN THEIR CRAFT - TANE MORGAN

Tane Morgan is not only an outstanding barista, but the proud owner and operator of one of New Plymouth’s neighbourhood gems.

Tane moved home to New Plymouth from Wellington where he was studying, after his dad set up Caffe Blues in Westown and his love affair with the art of coffee making began.

“I didn’t know a lot about coffee other than I was going to be the barista and I had a heap of really cool mates that were willing to pay for a really crap coffee, so I learnt how to make it reasonably fast by having that opportunity.”

Tane was a barista for 10 years and after that taught coffee making at WITT for another five.

About a year ago Tane, along with Fiancé Adrianna, decided to add to the epic coffee culture in New Plymouth and created Pr%f & Stock Coffee Aotearoa. They became a coffee dream team and started roasting coffee and selling it wholesale to cafes and restaurants around the region.

Next door to the roasting, the pair also set up a takeaway store, both have a wicked convenience about them as they’re run out of their home garage.

“People can roll in and roll out, no hassle with parking, one garage is the takeaway store and the other is where we produce and package, from there we send it out around the Maunga. We’ve picked up 15 accounts in the last 12 months and it’s onwards and upwards from here.”

Ethically sourced ingredients and a community feel are really important for Tane and that’s reflected in everything they do.

“The ideology of our business is to create a community spirit and cohesion between likeminded people, people who are into looking after the planet and creative people who we can showcase alongside what we’re good at.”

Tane says hospo is in his blood and crafting something people come back for and enjoy, day in and day out is where his passion comes from.

“We have four-year-old twins and showing them that you can do it, out of a garage, at home, make a good living from it, and still having plenty of time to enjoy them is my motivation.”

Tane is ambitious and creative and enjoys black coffee and the odd espresso martini! He cares about his job, doing it well and the people that make it happen.

If you were wondering the meaning behind the name of the coffee joint- the PROOF is in the pudding and there will always be enough ethical and sustainable STOCK to go round. But don’t just trust everything you read, go in and have a cuppa for yourself – 40 Cutfield Road.
